Onkgopotse Khumalo

Founder and CEO of Amari Health

Onkgopotse Khumalo is the Founder and CEO of Amari Health, a digital mental health
platform transforming how organizations address employee wellbeing at scale. Drawing on
her strategic experience at McKinsey & Company, across various financial services
institutions and her personal experience navigating mental wellness , Onkgopotse
recognized a critical market failure: mental health conditions drive 30-40% of productivity
losses and chronic disease progression, yet remain systematically underfunded and
inaccessible across Africa.

Through Amari, she has built a validated B2B2C model serving organizations across diverse
sectors globally from transport and logistics to insurance, healthcare providers, and
philanthropic institutions.

As Co-Founder of Mediwell Investment Holdings, Onkgopotse draws on this experience to
bridge the gap between healthcare innovation and implementation, understanding both the
clinical infrastructure and health economics required to scale solutions across Africa’s
unique healthcare landscape. She is an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellow, CFA Level 1
charterholder, and holds a Bachelor of Business Science (Hons) from UCT.
Her work has been recognized with the African Excellence Award for Best Online Mental
Health Service (2023) and finalist positions in She Loves Tech (2023), the world’s largest
tech startup competition for women. Amari has been recognised by Heavy Chef amongst
South Africa’s “Most exciting startups to watch” (2024) with Onkgopotse’s early work earning
her recognised amongst the UNDPs Top 50 Young African Innovators in 2021.

She is deeply passionate about transforming how mental health is integrated into primary
care and preventative health in a way that is culturally resonant, convenient, and shifts the
paradigm from crisis response to proactive wellbeing.
